Mentor: Mr. Pranab K. Rakshit,Manager, Bharat Petroleum Corporate R&D Center,Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh Description: The present work focuses on the estimation of kinetic parameters for carboxylic acid conversion to alcohol using hydrogenation over heterogeneous catalysts. Acetic acid was chosen to find out the kinetics of carboxylic acid hydrogenation over platinum supported on TiO 2. This reaction was carried out in several conditions of temperature, pressure, weight-hour space velocity and molar ratio of H2 to acetic acid in a packed bed reactor. Reaction models that correlate these data involving Langmuir-Hinshelwood type catalytic sequence will be derived. Several rate expressions will be derived by assuming different elementary reactions as the rate determining step. Once the expressions were developed, experimental data obtained will be used to fit these expressions. The one having the closest fit would be considered as the rate expression for the reaction. Detailed Mat-lab based code will be developed to estimate the rate parameters. Finally, an attempt would be made to develop the fixed bed reactor model using the developed kinetics. Institution: Durgapur Institute of Advanced Technology and Management Duration: 1 Year Project Title: ?Critical Investigation on the Degradation Study of Synthetic Polymer and a Comparison with a Sustainable Eco-friendly Biopolymer? Mentor: Mrs. Deepshikha Datta Description: in this project, the work highlights on the biodegradation rate of various synthetic polymers by calculating its elongation at break, the rupture load and loss in weight in various conditions in which these plastics are generally exposed of after use. In this investigation, a comparative analysis was carried out by systematic study of the degradation rate of Poly lactic acid (PLA), a fermentation based bio-polymer. The degradation study was extended by immersing the samples in 0.1 N Hydrochloric acid (HCl) and 0.1 N Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution considering the fact that plastic is generally associated with slightly acidic or slightly alkaline condition. Comparison of the same properties of a prepared bio-plastic (using potato starch) under the same conditions was also done. Also, proper disposal systems of plastics, recycling, and production of useful substances from plastic wastes which can be put into application to make plastics eco-friendly have been elaborated. Minor Project: Duration: 26 Days Completed an implant Industrial Training from Haldia Petrochemicals Limited, Haldia Description: implant training on High Density Polyethylene Production Process Academic/Extra Curricular Achievements: Participated and presented a paper on ?Methods of Assessment of Biodegradability & Chemical Degradability of Petroleum based and Fermentation based Plastic Films to Estimate the Ways to Make Plastics Eco-friendly? in CHEMCON 2015 at Indian Institute of Technology , Guwahati during December 27-30,2015 Participated in TEQIP-II & DST-Govt. of West Bengal sponsored 3rd One week short term program on ?Emerging Trends in Upstream and Downstream Operations of Petroleum Industries? during December 15-19,2014 organised by Department of Chemical Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Durgapur Future Goals: To seek challenging assignment and responsibility, with an opportunity for growth and career advancement as successful achievements. I want to contribute to the organization with hard work, sincerity, patience and dedication ________________________________________________________________________________________
